Vision & Values

Our wish is for Willows children, regardless of their background, abilities or individual needs, to be aspirational in all aspects of their lives, both now and in the future.

At Willows, we break down barriers both socially and academically to ensure that all of our children have the ambition, opportunities, knowledge and skills required to achieve the best outcomes in life. Our children will leave our school with a high academic understanding, treasured memories, and ultimately a life-long love of learning.

Equally as important is that our children are well-rounded individuals with a clear sense of identity and individuality. We want them to have positive self-esteem, great ambition for themselves and a strong internal motivation to embark upon any path in life they wish to. We want them to make good choices and to be intrinsically driven to do the right thing, even when they face adversity.

When Willows children enter secondary school, we want them to have the confidence, motivation and skills to thrive within a new setting. The lessons we have taught them at Willows will extend far beyond our classroom walls. Within their journey into the wider world, we want our values to shine through so that our children can make a positive contribution to society and have the capability to achieve social mobility.

Our children will recognise themselves as change makers in their own lives who are empowered to steer themselves in any direction they choose!

Willows Way

Pupils at Willows Primary School will be guided by our Willows Way to become ‘the best that they can be’ by adopting our key values:

1. Resilient — Willows children are determined, self-motivated learners who keep on trying when difficulties arise.

2. Love of Learning — Willows children are motivated, passionate and inquisitive with a desire to never stop learning. They embrace a focussed, ‘can do’ attitude that ignites energy and enthusiasm into all that they do.

3. Reflective — Willows children apply what they have learnt, make links and connections between learning and think in an informed way to improve in all areas of the curriculum and beyond.

4. Team Player — Willows children work cooperatively with each other to overcome barriers, celebrate their achievements and to support one another with constructive feedback.  They show respect when working collaboratively by sharing, listening and accepting ideas that are contributed.

5. Skills — Willows children learn adaptable, versatile skills that can be applied to old and new circumstances. They have a desire to improve learning knowing that practise makes permanent.

6. Problem Solver —  Willows children thrive on challenges to develop perseverance and resilience and evolve into critical thinkers. They develop strategies to resolve issues and problems through a ‘trial and error’ approach with systematic thinking.

7. Independent — Willows children are proactive and resourceful at trying a range of methods before asking for help. They are willing to have a go, using previous knowledge, to make connections and problem solve.

8. Creative — Willows children regularly think outside the box with the confidence to express their own ideas and establish their unique concepts.

9. Risk Taker — Willows children are not afraid of failure. They see the opportunity as a natural evolution to solve a problem and give things a go despite the potential risk. They embrace a bounce back ability to reflect and move learning forward.

10. Confident — Willows children develop high self-esteem and self-belief in a positive, safe environment for all to thrive. They adopt a nurturing attitude towards others and believe that anything can be achieved.

British Values

As part of our promotion of the spiritual, moral, social and cultural (SMSC) development of our pupils , we also actively (through whole school assemblies and links with our personal development curriculum) promote the fundamental British values of:

  • Democracy

  • The rule of law

  • Individual liberty

  • Mutual respect for and tolerance of those with different faiths and belief

As a result of our promotion of British values, our pupils gain:

  • An understanding of how citizens can influence decision-making through the democratic process

  • An appreciation that living under the rule of law protects individual citizens and is essential for their wellbeing and safety

  • An understanding that there is a separation of power between the executive and the judiciary, and that while some public bodies such as the police and the army can be held to account through Parliament, others such as the courts maintain independence

  • An understanding that the freedom to choose and hold other faiths and beliefs is protected in law

  • An acceptance that other people having different faiths or beliefs to oneself (or having none) should be accepted and tolerated, and should not be the cause of prejudicial or discriminatory behaviour

  • An understanding of the importance of identifying and combating discrimination
