At Willows, we believe that physical activity plays a vital role in the healthy development of every child. Through our Sports Premium funding, we are committed to providing high-quality opportunities for all pupils to engage in regular exercise and active play.
Physical activity not only supports the development of essential motor skills and physical fitness, but also nurtures important life skills. By taking part in a wide range of sports and physical activities, children build self-confidence, learn to work as part of a team, and develop positive social interactions with their peers.
Our focus on promoting healthy habits from an early age encourages lifelong wellbeing. In addition, we instill the values of sportsmanship, respect, and fair play, helping pupils understand the importance of integrity and cooperation both on and off the field.
We are proud to use our Sports Premium to inspire all children to lead active, healthy, and balanced lives—laying the foundation for success in school and beyond.
What is the PE and Sport Premium?
The Primary PE and Sport Premium is a government initiative introduced in 2013 to improve the provision of physical education (PE) and sport in primary schools across England.
The funding is provided directly to schools to enhance PE and sport opportunities for all pupils, with the aim of increasing participation, raising achievement, and promoting healthy, active lifestyles from an early age.
The initiative was introduced in response to concerns about declining physical activity levels among children and the recognition of PE and sport as essential elements of a well-rounded education. Research shows that physical activity not only improves children’s physical health but also supports mental wellbeing, social development, and academic performance.
Schools receive Sports Premium funding based on the number of pupils in Years 1 to 6. The money must be used to make additional and sustainable improvements to the quality of PE and sport offered.
How Are We Spending Our PE and Sports Premium?
