Personal Development | How we do it
In all year groups, children are taught Personal Development through our rich and engaging curriculum, themed weekly assemblies and whole school initiatives. To develop our children into global citizens, who have an understanding of our ever changing world, we immerse them into a culturally rich curriculum and provide them with opportunities to experience the world around us. As part of our Mental Health and Wellbeing strand, we ensure that children are given the key skills online and offline to stay safe and have a positive wellbeing. This is explicitly taught through our Project Evolve progressive program and our mental health and wellbeing curriculum which lasts for 6 weeks. We have recently trained children through ‘One Goal’ to become Mental Health champions across the school who help and support children on arrival to school, break times and lunchtimes. Our Mental Health assemblies give all children a greater understanding to what Mental Health is and effective strategies that they can use to ensure they have positive Mental Health. As part of our Healthy lifestyles, PE is taught twice a week to help keep our children physically well and it is taught through our Science topic on a 2 year cycle. To help build, maintain and develop positive relationships our ‘No Outsiders’ book scheme has been linked closely to meet the Relationships Education (RSE) curriculum to develop children’s understanding and development in a creative, reflective and personalised way. For any areas of the curriculum that are standalone we use the PSHE association syllabus to ensure coverage, depth and progression.
The table above (click to view full image) shows how our rich curriculum, culture and climate provides children with a wealth of learning experiences that are planned for in a coherent way through the curriculum and extra-curricular activities. We develop all pupils and provide them with opportunities to develop their interests, individuality and talents.
Each of these elements has a clear way of being taught and a clear progression throughout school.
