Building Bright Minds!

As our whole school mini adventure, “Brick by Brick” draws to a close, our children continue to be inspired as coders, computer programmers and engineers of the future.  Each classroom has been transformed in to a mini design lab, where children have been amazed to discover that they could build elaborate Lego designs, and then go on to code their creations to move, light up in different colours and even make sounds.  From tiny bricks came big ideas, as pupils discovered that LEGO isn’t just for building cities, but a tool for digital design, creativity and collaboration.  From animals communicating in Morse code to simple race cars, the children have been incredibly proud to show off their moving, talking models to their families in the end of day showcase.

Each class has also had the opportunity to partake in an exciting workshop with Balfour Beatty, where pupils learned how engineers and builders help protect natural habitats during construction projects.  Using their maths, science, and engineering skills, the children then designed and built real bird boxes – now ready to be placed around the school grounds to support local wildlife.
